Glencore Learner Support
Sponsored by Glencore Merafe Resources, this programme has been supporting learners in the Kroondal area, particularly in the Ikemeleng community, since 2017. The initiative is focused on enhancing performance in STEM subjects and increasing university enrollment in STEM-related careers.
- Provides tutoring, career guidance, study skills development, and application assistance to learners from grades 9 to 12
- Achieved over 80% pass rates in Mathematics and Physical Sciences for three consecutive years.
Over 30 learners have enrolled in STEM university programmes, with one student competing in an international engineering competition in Australia in 2022.
AASA Education
Sponsored by Anglo American South Africa and managed by JET Education Services and Kagiso Shanduka Trust, this programme ran from 2020 to 2023. It targeted grade 12 learners across 30 schools in the Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo, focusing on improving matric performance in Mathematics and Physical Sciences
- Provided tutoring, career guidance, and assistance with university and bursary applications
- Achieved a consistent 10% annual improvement in results, despite challenges posed by COVID-19.
One school in Waterberg District achieved a 100% pass rate in its first matric class in 2021.
De Beers Learner Support
Funded by De Beers Venetia Mine, this programme supports learners in the Blouberg and Musina areas, focusing on grades 10 and 11. It aims to bridge content gaps, improve performance in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Accounting, and inspire learners to pursue STEM careers.
- Learners engage in science projects addressing UN Sustainability Goals and visit the Vuwani Science Centre.
- Significant academic improvements, with more learners progressing to grade 12 with strong marks.
Encourages students to contribute to their communities and explore STEM career pathways.
Modikwa Learner Support
Sponsored by Modikwa Platinum Mine and launched in 2023, this programme supports 120 grade 12 learners annually in the Driekop and Leolo circuits. The programme is designed to help learners qualify for university, particularly for STEM and mining-related careers.
- Provides tutoring in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, along with career guidance and motivational support
- Achieved a 50% improvement in subject performance, with one school increasing its Mathematics pass rate from 24% to 50%.
Integrates online learning, with learners provided mobile devices and data for remote education.
Hotazel 2nd Chance Matric
Implemented in the Northern Cape through Tshikululu Social Investments, this programme, funded by the Hotazel Manganese Mine Education Trust, ran in 2022 and 2023. It supports unemployed youth who need to meet the minimum requirements for their National Senior Certificate (NCS)
- Provides daily revision sessions, continuous assessments, and career guidance in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Accounting.
- Supported 75 individuals annually, helping them achieve the qualifications necessary for further education or employment.
Focuses on equipping participants with the skills and confidence needed to meet the NCS requirements.
Adopt-a-School Educator Development
Launched in 2024, this programme focuses on developing primary school teachers by providing training and coaching. Additionally, it has equipped schools with reading corners, complete with bookshelves and reading materials to enhance student literacy.
- Supported two primary schools in KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State, receiving positive feedback from beneficiaries.
- Provided comprehensive training for teachers, helping them improve teaching strategies and classroom management.
Reading corners have significantly improved access to literacy resources, fostering a better reading culture among students.

Since its inception in 2022, the Bursary Scheme Management programme for Modikwa Platinum Mine has been dedicated to supporting students throughout their university journey. With over 80 students benefiting from the programme, L&T EduSolutions provides comprehensive assistance, ensuring a smooth transition from high school to the university environment. The programme goes beyond financial support by offering:
- Academic guidance and mentorship
- Personal development assistance
- Administrative management of bursary requirements
Through this holistic approach, we ensure that students not only excel academically but are also equipped to navigate university life successfully. Our mentorship programme helps students build resilience and develop the skills needed to cope with the demands of tertiary education, while regular check-ins ensure continuous support and progress monitoring.
Glencore Bursars Care Programme
Launched in 2021, the Glencore Bursary Scheme Management programme is an extension of the successful learners' support programme, designed to support students at the university level. This programme is focused on guiding students who have transitioned from high school to university, with tailored interventions such as:
- Mentorship and career guidance
- Soft skills development
- Work readiness training
Our aim is to prepare these students not only for academic success but also for the workforce. The inclusion of a work readiness component equips students with the practical skills needed for a successful transition into the professional world, ensuring they are well-rounded and career-ready by the time they complete their studies. The initiative equips participants with practical skills that can lead to employment opportunities or help them establish their own businesses.
- Offers training in plumbing, bricklaying, tiling, poultry farming, crop farming, and livestock farming.
- Aims to empower participants with marketable skills, enhancing their ability to access economic opportunities.
Has supported over 90 beneficiaries since its inception, contributing to local economic development and self-sufficiency
Modikwa Skills Development
Since 2020, the Modikwa Skills Development Programme has been providing essential portable skills training to the local community and mine employees. This initiative focuses on equipping individuals with the tools and knowledge to pursue further employment or start their own enterprises.
- Offers training in plumbing, bricklaying, farming, and tiling, building practical competencies for diverse industries.
- Designed to empower participants with the skills needed to explore entrepreneurial ventures or enhance their employability.
Has successfully supported 15 beneficiaries, fostering growth and self-reliance within the community.
